it’s decent right? suprisingly so, refreshingly so. this show has always been about creating a composite image of new york’s fledgling artists, albeit with a few stars thrown in the mix to add legitimacy. of course, “where” we’re at now, in ny, is largely a hellscape of cash grab paintings and the opportunism of idenitarian difference - which this show does pay small offerings to, maybe in the interest of fidelity, maybe in the interest of poor curatorial decisions. I enjoyed the scale of the works, many of the artists showed large works, it didn't feel like there was a strain for sprawl. it was nice to see younger artists given full rooms to show multiple works of more delicate scale. i find that the WhiBi often pushes artists to create these overproduced, overscaled monoliths. these actually seemed produced at new york studio scale, which is small, shrinking.
